Hi everyone!

I'm happy to come back today to introduce you one of my favorite bookshops in Paris. It's a bookshop opened in October 2018 called "Ici Grands Boulevards". It's the biggest Parisian bookshop.

I was curious to see if I would appreciate this place because generally, I prefer small bookshops, which are more intimate. When I arrived, I first noticed that the outside invited clients to consumption, like for a coffee. I loved this principle, to make a bookshop a friendly place. There is a bar in the middle of the establishment, it directly catches the eye as soon as you enter it. This bar is surrounded by shelves

Regarding the collections, they are very rich. Again, everything is done to be friendly and make you want to search into the shelves. My favorite part of the bookshop was where we can find books in original language: there is a small bench integrated in the shelves and plants which surround him. I found that there were very interesting books, not necessarily always the best known. The Anglo-Saxon literature section was like a paradise for me!

We do not suspect the area when we enter the place but we then discover a basement, containing a lot of children's books and comics. So there is a lot to discover and we just want to get lost in this bookshop and spend whole hours there. 

As soon as I arrived to the youth department, I noticed little alcoves where children could sit and read. I loved these places, new in bookshops and wonderfully imagined. Again, it's small details that make the place special because it cannot be found elsewhere. In the basement, there are also large cubes that are like benches, where you can sit. The bookshop has been designed in this way: to allow you to appropriate the most of the place.


The recommandations of the booksellers are very nice: I find that the booksellers in each sector seem to put a lot of passion into their work and we can feel it as a customer. We want to read and buy everything. This bookshop offers a good overview of the editorial production of the moment, whatever the type of work we are looking for.

As you may have understood, I really loved this place. The most incredible thing for me is to offer a huge place and yet have retained the privacy and the warmth of an independent bookshop. I also believe that the images speak for themselves and that they reveal a lot of the atmosphere of the place. If you go to Paris, you should go to this place, you will not be disappointed!

I come back today with a selection of 10 books to read in winter. Indeed, at the moment, I have only one desire: to be in my bed with a good book. So I selected 10 books perfect for the season.

1. The Truth about the Harry Quebert affair - Joël Dicker

I red this book last winter, that's why I can assure that it's an ideal book for the period. It's very simple: once the novel opened, it's impossible to close it without having finished it! As you probably know, the story is an exciting investigation: new suspects appear in every chapter, new clues are discovered, the narrator is threatened, his friend is accused… You never get bored with this book and I really liked it!

2. The casual vacancy - J.K Rowling

I don't need to introduce you this author: you all know Harry Potter. But have you ever heard about The casual vacancy? This book was first published under a pseudonym, allowing J.K Rowling to detach herself from her sucessful saga. Personally, I discovered it knowing that she was the author and I really liked it. It's an intense novel, with a solid scenario and a lot of interesting characters. It's the perfect novel to keep company by the fireside!

3. Optimists die first - Susin Nielsen

If this book is in this selection, it's mainly due to its characters: they are so adorable that you can only love them! Of course, they are not perfect but as the novel goes by, you will see them face their fears, their lies, their family… It's moving and also funny to see them evolve. If we read this book quickly, it's not only because it's short, but also because it's very good!

4. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

The story of this novel is apparently a marriage: is the heroine Elizabeth Bennett in love with the rich and proud Darcy? Behind this intrigue which seems simple, it's in reality a whole analysis of psychology and customs in society that Jane Austen shows in all subltety. It's a cult novel that immerses us in Victorian England! As a big fan of Downton Abbey, I liked a lot this book!

5. The Shining - Stephen King

The Shining is a masterpiece often cited as Stephen King's best book. Perfect for winter, this book immerses us in an icy astmosphere, in the heart of an haunted hostel. When I red it for the first time, I was totally scared, I still wonder how I managed to finish it!

I share with you today five books whose plot take place in Paris. I really like to read books with Paris as setting because I can easily image the places and project myself in the story.
I selected books for teenagers and young adults. I will do a second selection with books written by authors of the 18th and 19th centuries in a few weeks.

I'm back today to talk about comic books and more specifically, about women who write comic books. In fact, I discovered few weeks ago an author called Emma who denounces gender inequality throught her comic books. So I studied the issue and I wanted to share with you my research.

With a turnover of 500 million euro in 2017, the market of comic books is doing very well in France. But did you know that women represent only 12% of comic books authors? However, more and more women are claiming their place in the comic books area and their place of women in the society in general.

"For 35 years, we were only 8. Now, we are more than 250 cartoonists". Jeanne Puchol, a comic books author, announces it frankly: women want no longer to play supporting roles in this sector dominated by men. In 2013, the author Lisa Mandel lauched the "Collective of comic books creators against sexism". Her charter, signed by more than 200 cartoonists, asked booksellers to not separate comic books written by women from those written by men.

Even the very prestigious comic books festival in Angoulême faced a controversy in 2016 with an exclusively male selection. Since then, we are slowly striving for an improvement: since 2017, the festival has changed its voting method by implementing parity in its selection committees. However, according to the Association of Comic Book Critics and Journalists, women cartoonists represent only 12%, while they are undoubtedly trying something new in the genre and while 53% of comic books are bought by women...

These comic books which are a hit have at heart to break the female clichés and change mentalities. Thus, the two volumes of Penelope Bagieu's comic books called The cheekies (Les Culottées in French) sold more than 250,000 copies. They have been translated into nine languages. First published on a blog hosted by the newspaper Le Monde, the author's drawings presenting portraits of extraordinary women won over a large audience. Penelope's drawings have inspired many women.

Today, I wanted to give you advices to find time to read more. Indeed, people around me often ask me "How do you do to read so much?". I don't have a miracle recipe but I thought that an article on this subject would be useful: I will give you my opinion on this issue and my daily organisation regarding reading.

For me, to find time to read requires organisation. In fact, I create reading moments everyday. So I choose, for example, to get up a little earlier in the morning to read about 15 or 20 minutes. Indeed, I noticed that I was too tired to read effectively in the evening, so I made the choice to go to bed a little earlier, to be able to read in the morning. I have also noticed that my mind is much quicker when I wake up and that reading is therefore much more effective. This allows me to start the day with a little moment for myself.

Moreover, I take advantage of the "empty moments" of the day. For example, I have one hour of public transport in the morning to go to work and one hour in the evening to go home. So, I read during these two hours of transports. If you don't take public transport to go to work or to school, take always a book with you anyway. In fact, we have a lot of moments in our lives when we do nothing but wait (a medical or an administrative appointment for example). Despite of using your phone, take advantage of this wait to read.

This is not necessarly everyone's opinion, but for me, reading is often a matter of choice. There are, of course, exceptions but I don't think that reading a lot is a chance, as I often hear.

Reading asks effort and we are not always ready to focus on a book. Instead of reading, we often choose to turn on the TV, to watch Netflix, to listen to music or to use our smartphone. We easily spend a lot of time on social networks for example. When I wonder what this time on Instagram and Facebook brings to me, I sometimes tell myself that it's better to turn off my phone and to read instead. I believe that everyone should think about it. I consider that if someone reads more than me, he probably makes other choices than me. Sometimes, we don't realize the time we waste doing things that don't give us real satisfaction.You have to become an actor at every moment of your day to prioritize the activites you need.

Finally, it was important to me to say that it's above all necessary to listen to yourself. I believe that life is full of several small pleasures and it's normal to not always give priority to reading. And certain periods are marked by particular event, which make our mind not available for reading. It must be a pleasure and we must also accept that we are not in a good mood for this activity during certain periods of our life.

Reading should not be a race for the number of books read but a pleasure. Everyone has to find a reading rhythm that corresponds to himself or herself.
